These are the things to do outdoors in Sofia we book most, checked in October 2026: six that run all year and seven that open in spring. Prices start at €10 for paintball and go up to €200 for a private horse carriage; most cost €20 to €60 per person. Riding, the carriage and paintball are on Vitosha, about 20 minutes from the centre. The rivers and the zipline are one to one and a half hours away, the boats on Iskar Reservoir about 45 minutes. Send us your dates on WhatsApp, we check availability for free and arrange the rest.

ALL YEAR · WEATHER PERMITTINGThe one-hour ride suits beginners; longer routes go to the waterfalls and lakes (€80), the Boyana spring (€105) or a half-day loop (€120). There is also a romantic ride for two for €180. Children ride with an instructor beside the horse. You pay a 20% deposit to book and the rest at the base.
ALL YEAR · WEATHER PERMITTINGThe carriage is yours alone, for two or a couple with children. The monastery and waterfall routes cost the same. You pay a 20% deposit and the rest on site, and if the weather turns bad we move the ride or refund the deposit.
ALL YEAR · SNOW INCLUDEDEvery pack includes marker, mask, overalls and gloves: 100 paintballs (€10), 200 (€15) or 500 with a T-shirt (€30), and you play until they run out. Games start at 09:00, 13:00 and 16:30 every day of the year, snow included. For children there is a smaller-calibre field in the city, just ask us.
COVERED PITCH IN SOFIAFive or six a side; groups of up to about 25 take turns. Bubbles included, bring sportswear and trainers. Rain does not stop the game, and players are 7 and over, younger on request.
DRY TRACK ONLYAdults race a 270cc kart for €19 (10 minutes) or €22 (15 minutes). Children aged 7 to 16 have their own karts and sessions from €15, and in a double kart a parent drives with a child aged 4 to 12 beside them (€18.50). Karting only runs on a dry track; if it is wet, we move you to a new date or refund you.
ALL YEAR · RAIN OR SHINESix packages from €70 to €130 per person, with an English-speaking instructor throughout. The sniper packages shoot at a 100 m target with a live camera. You shoot from under a roof, so rain does not stop it. Bring your original ID or passport.
Rivers, the zipline and the reservoir: these summer activities near Sofia start between March and June and run until October. Book them now for spring.
MARCH TO OCTOBERAbout 12 km in spring and 8 km in summer, with an instructor in every boat, full gear and insurance. You need no experience and do not have to be a swimmer. It runs from 2 people, and children from 4 can come; ask us first.
APRIL TO OCTOBERRapids of different strength with calm stretches between them, which is why families like it. Children are welcome with an adult. It runs from 4 people, and smaller groups can often join another boat. You can get there by car, by train from Sofia or with a transfer we arrange.
JUNE TO OCTOBERYou walk, slide and jump down the Vlahi river with an instructor and full gear; the drive to the canyon is included. No experience is needed. It runs from 6 people; fewer of you can often join a shared group. Children are welcome with an adult, ask us first.
MAY TO OCTOBERYou start with the longest rafting run of the season in the Kresna Gorge, then walk up to Kazanite, a cold mountain stream with round pools where you jump from the waterfalls. Instructor, full gear and insurance are included. It runs from 4 people; ask us about children.
AT THE RAFTING BASEA warm-up level about a metre off the ground, then 24 elements at around 5 metres, and a ride of about a minute on the zipline. Harness, helmet, briefing and insurance are included. It is at the rafting base 90 minutes south of Sofia, so it fits best on the same day as rafting or canyoning.
APRIL TO OCTOBERTwo hours on a sailing yacht cost €35 per person, on the catamaran for bigger groups €50; longer trips on request. There is also a private sail for two for €100. The skipper does the sailing, so you need no experience, and children are welcome with an adult.
SPRING TO AUTUMNAfter a short briefing on the shore the boat is yours for the hour, fuel included, for up to four people. The driver must be 18 or over, and children ride along with an adult on board. Want it for longer? Ask us.
Horse riding and the carriage run all year on Vitosha, weather permitting; if it is not safe, the base moves your ride to a new date or refunds the deposit. Paintball goes on in the snow, bubble football is on a covered pitch and the shooting range works under a roof, rain or shine. Karting needs a completely dry track, so on a wet day you get a new date or a full refund.
The water opens in spring: Struma rafting from March, the Iskar Gorge from April, Kazanite from May, the yacht from April and canyoning from June, all until October. The motorboat runs from spring to autumn.
