Rakia is Bulgaria's national spirit — a fruit brandy distilled from plums, grapes, apricots, quince, or cherries, depending on the region. It predates wine culture in the Balkans, and in Bulgarian homes it's the drink that opens every table, marks every celebration, and accompanies every meal. To understand rakia is to understand a significant part of Bulgarian daily life. The museum doesn't just show you bottles — it explains why this particular drink became the backbone of a culture.

The Rakia Museum is smaller than you might expect — and more intimate than most Sofia attractions. A QR-based audio guide walks you through the collection of bottles, distillation equipment and artifacts. The tasting follows at your own pace, with Bulgarian appetizers included in every experience. Classic includes 3 standard grape and fruit rakias. Aged includes 3 barrel-matured rakias with deeper flavour and longer finish. If you enjoy whisky or cognac, go Aged. If you're new to rakia, start Classic.
