A horse carriage ride in Sofia is the slow, easy way to see Vitosha. The carriage sets off from Dragalevtsi, at the foot of the mountain and about 20 minutes from the centre, and for two hours the coachman drives you through the forest to Dragalevtsi Monastery or towards the Aleko rock and waterfall. You sit back behind the horse and stop for photos on the way. The price is €200 for the whole carriage, not per person, and only one booking runs at a time, so the carriage is just for you.

Two routes, both two hours

Every horse carriage ride in Sofia that we book starts in Dragalevtsi. The monastery route goes through the forest to Dragalevtsi Monastery, one of the oldest on Vitosha, and back to the start.

The waterfall route goes further into the forest, towards the Aleko viewpoint rock and the lower Aleko waterfall. Both last at least 120 minutes and cost the same, so pick the one you like the sound of, or ask us and we help you choose.

Yes. The carriage takes one booking at a time, so it is only the two of you and the coachman. Tell us your plan when you book and we help with the timing.

Yes, the carriage suits a couple with children. Tell us how many of you there are and the ages when you book. For a bigger group, ask us first.
How long does the horse carriage ride last?+
At least 120 minutes on both routes, and the price covers two hours. If you would like longer, ask us and we check with the base.
How many people fit in the carriage?+
It is for two, or a couple with children. If you are more, message us before you book.
What should I wear?+
Comfortable clothes for the weather and an extra layer, as it is cooler on Vitosha than in the city.
What if it rains?+
If the weather is bad, we move your ride to a new date or refund your deposit. We let you know as soon as we can.
How much does it cost and how do I pay?+
A horse carriage ride in Sofia costs €200 for the whole carriage, the same price every day. Checking a date is free. Once we confirm, a 20% deposit by card secures your time and the rest is paid on site, in cash or by card. Hotel pick-up is paid in cash to the driver.
Can I cancel?+
Yes. Cancel at least 48 hours before your ride and we refund the deposit. Later cancellations and no-shows are not refunded.
How far in advance should I book?+
There is no minimum, you can book the same day if the carriage is free. It takes one booking at a time, so booking early gives you the widest choice of times.
How do I get to Dragalevtsi?+
By car (parking is free), by public transport to Dragalevtsi, or with our hotel pick-up from €60 per car, return.
Can I give a carriage ride as a gift?+
Yes. Message us and we arrange the date directly with the people you are treating. Our gifts have no expiry date.
Do SoFun Card holders get a discount?+
Yes, 10%: the carriage is €180 instead of €200. You pay a €20 deposit and €160 on site. The discount does not apply to hotel pick-up.
