Horseback riding in Sofia starts in Dragalevtsi, at the foot of Vitosha, about 20 minutes from the centre. Horse trekking on Vitosha: the routes

Aleko waterfall on Vitosha, a stop on the 2-hour trek

Every ride starts and ends at the base in Dragalevtsi. The 2-hour treks go either to Aleko waterfall and the viewpoint rock, with a short walk at the end and a rest at the top, or to the Simeonovo lakes, which you reach on horseback. The 3-hour route goes on to the Zhiva Voda spring above Boyana, and the 4-hour Grand Vitosha ride links the lakes, the Paneurhythmy meadow, a waterfall, the viewpoint rock and the old Roman road. The 1 to 3-hour rides are chosen so that people without experience manage them without strain. Add a little time at the start for the helmet, a short briefing and getting to know your horse.

We can pick you up from your hotel in Sofia and bring you back, for an extra charge per car, round trip, paid in cash to the driver; allow about 20 to 30 minutes each way. Horseback riding FAQ

Do I need riding experience?+

No. Horseback riding in Sofia with us is done with an instructor at every horse, and the 1-hour ride and the 2 and 3-hour routes suit people who have never ridden. For the 4-hour Grand Vitosha ride we ask about your experience when you book.

Can children ride?+

Yes, children ride with an instructor beside the horse. Travelling with a small child? There is a pony too, just ask us. Tell us the ages when you book and we check what suits them.

What should I wear?+

Long trousers and closed shoes with a flat sole. Helmets are provided at the base. A light jacket helps, as it is cooler on the mountain than in the city.

How much does horseback riding in Sofia cost and how do I pay?+

From €50 per person for 1 hour, the same price every day: the 2-hour trek is €80, the 3-hour ride €105, the 4-hour ride €120 and the romantic ride €180 for two. Checking a date is free. Once we confirm, a 20% deposit by card holds your time and the rest is paid at the base, in cash or by card. Hotel pick-up is paid in cash to the driver.

Can I cancel?+

Yes. Cancel at least 48 hours before your ride and we refund the deposit. Later cancellations and no-shows are not refunded.

What if the weather is bad?+

If the weather makes the ride unsafe, the base moves it to a new date or you get your deposit back. We let you know as soon as we can.

How far in advance should I book?+

There is no minimum. If a horse and a time are free, you can book the same day.

How do I get to the base?+

The base is in Dragalevtsi, about 20 minutes from the centre. Come by car (parking is free), by public transport to Dragalevtsi, or with our hotel pick-up: €60 for up to 3 people, €120 up to 6, €200 up to 10 or €300 up to 19, per car, round trip.

Is there a horse ride for couples?+

Yes, the romantic ride for two costs €180 for both of you. It suits an anniversary, a birthday, a proposal or a surprise.

Can I give a ride as a gift?+

Yes. Message us and we arrange the date directly with the person you are treating. Our gifts have no expiry date.

Do SoFun Card holders get a discount?+

Yes, 10% on every ride: a 1-hour ride is €45 instead of €50. The discount does not apply to hotel pick-up. Get your card
