Iskar Gorge rafting is the gentle way into white water near Sofia: 1.5 to 2 hours on the river in the Iskar Gorge, about an hour north of the city. The route mixes rapids of different strength with calm stretches where you can rest and take in the cliffs and the forest. You need no experience, children are welcome with an adult, and it costs €40 per person with all the gear, from four people, every day from April to October. The Iskar is the calmer of our two rivers, with rapids of different strength and quiet stretches in between where you can rest and look at the gorge. That makes Iskar Gorge rafting the natural pick for families, first timers and anyone who wants to enjoy the scenery as much as the rapids. Children are welcome with an adult: tell us their ages when you book. No experience is needed, and the instructor explains everything in the safety briefing before you set off.
Both rivers make an easy day trip from Sofia, but they feel very different. If your group wants more white water and a bigger adrenaline hit, go for Struma rafting.
The €40 covers everything you need on the river: a wetsuit, neoprene shoes, a helmet, a splash jacket and a life jacket, a qualified instructor and a safety briefing before you set off. After the run, transport takes the group back along the route to the start, where there are changing rooms. Insurance for the descent is included too.
Iskar Gorge rafting starts on the Iskar river, about an hour north of Sofia, around 60 km. You can drive and park on site, take the train from Sofia, or ask us for a transfer from your hotel by car or minibus for the whole group; we send the price for your group when you book. We send the exact meeting point when we confirm. Leave time for the gorge itself: the Seven Thrones and Cherepish monasteries, the Ritlite rock walls and the Vazov eco-trail to the Skaklya waterfall are all nearby.
