🏔️ Snowmobile & Ski-Doo Safari Near Sofia | ❄️ Petrohan | 🌙 Day & Night Rides
"Absolutely breathtaking. We rode through snow-covered forests at sunrise and I couldn't believe we were only an hour from Sofia. The guide was brilliant — patient with beginners but knew exactly how to push us when we were ready for more. One of the best things I've done in Bulgaria."

Just 55 km from Sofia, the Petrohan Pass in the Balkan Mountains transforms in winter into one of Bulgaria's most dramatic snowmobile landscapes. Ejak has been running guided snowmobile tours here since 2016 — two groomed trails maintained by a PistenBully 25 track machine, ranging from a scenic 1-hour mountain ridge ride to a 1.5-hour technical master class through steep slopes, deep snowdrifts and a river crossing.
Known internationally as a ski-doo safari or snowmobile adventure, this is one of the best winter activities near Sofia — no driving licence required, accessible to beginners and experienced riders alike. Choose the standard route for panoramic mountain views, the technical trail for steep slopes and a river crossing, or the night snowmobile ride for a world of moonlit snow and mountain stars. All rides are led by a professional guide throughout.

🏔️ Standard Route — 1 Hour · 16 km
Starting from Chalet Petrohan, the standard route climbs to the ridge of Stara Planina — 16 km of groomed snowmobile trail through snow-covered forests, open mountain terrain and panoramic views toward Mount Kom. Available at 10:00, 12:00 and 14:30. The standard route can be ridden solo or with a passenger on the same snowmobile. Suitable for first-timers and experienced riders alike — the guide adjusts the pace to the group.
⚡ Technical Trail — Master Class · 1.5 Hours · 18 km
This route is not for everyone — and that's the point. The technical trail descends to the foot of Mount Kom and the Ginska River: steep slopes, deep snowdrifts, a snow labyrinth, and a river crossing on a snowmobile. You ride solo — no passenger on this route. Starts at 14:00. Groups up to 10 riders, with individual attention from a professional guide throughout. If you're done with standard experiences, this is where it escalates.
🌙 Night Snowmobile Ride — Standard Route After Dark
The same 16 km route, the same snowmobile, the same guide — but the mountain transforms completely after sunset. A world of moonlit snow, glittering stars and the sound of the engine echoing through the silent forest. The night snowmobile ride runs at the same price as the standard route and is one of the most memorable winter activities near Sofia. Book in advance — it fills quickly.
🛡️ The Trails & Safety
Both trails are maintained by a PistenBully 25 track machine — the same equipment used at ski resorts — and are 3 metres wide throughout. Riders travel in a column with 20-metre gaps between snowmobiles; overtaking is not permitted. Every participant receives a full safety briefing before departure. Helmet and accident insurance are included in the price. The guide leads the convoy from the front throughout the entire route.

❓FAQ +
Is this a ski-doo or snowmobile safari?
Yes — what's internationally known as a ski-doo safari or snowmobile adventure. "Ski-Doo" is a popular brand name that has become synonymous with snowmobiling, just like "Hoover" for vacuum cleaners. Our tours use professional snowmobiles on groomed mountain trails near Petrohan Pass — one of the best snowmobiling locations in Bulgaria, only 55 km from Sofia.
Do I need experience to ride a snowmobile?
No experience is required for the standard or night routes. The guide provides a full briefing before departure and the pace is adjusted to the group. The technical trail is more demanding and better suited to people comfortable with off-road or extreme terrain.
Which route should I choose?
The standard route is the right choice for most people — scenic, accessible and genuinely exciting. If you want steep slopes, snowdrifts and a river crossing on a snowmobile, book the technical trail. The night snowmobile ride is the standard route after dark — a completely different atmosphere and one of the most memorable winter experiences near Sofia.
Can I bring a passenger?
Yes — on the standard and night routes, two people can ride on one snowmobile for €123. The technical trail is solo only.
What if there's no snow?
Rides only take place when there is sufficient snow at Petrohan. If conditions aren't suitable on your chosen date, we'll contact you in advance to reschedule or offer a full refund.
What time do rides depart?
Standard route: 10:00 · 12:00 · 14:30. Technical trail: 14:00. Night ride timing depends on sunset — ask when booking and we'll confirm the exact time.
Is it good for groups?
Yes — the standard route takes groups up to 5, the technical trail up to 10. Larger groups can be accommodated with prior arrangement. Popular for corporate outings, stag weekends and family groups.
