You walk through an upside-down bedroom, step into a kaleidoscope and play with light, gravity and perspective, while the staff explain the science and help you get the photos. A visit takes about 1 to 1.5 hours, and tickets are €14 for adults, €6 for children 3 to 6 and €39 for a family. Message us with your date and time and we book the tickets for you.
Book your tickets on WhatsAppThe museum is split into four parts. Installations are the big walk-in rooms, like the bedroom where everything hangs from the ceiling. Optical illusions play with what your eyes expect, from the kaleidoscope to the vase that turns into two faces. The physics corner shows gravity, movement and light at work, and the historical illusions mix old tricks of art with new ones. Almost every exhibit is made to be touched and photographed, and the staff are on the floor to explain how it works and to take the picture for you.
Because it is all indoors and in the centre, the museum is one of the easiest things to do in Sofia with kids and a good answer to what to do in Sofia on a rainy day. It works for small children and teenagers alike, and couples come for the photos. There is a free cloakroom and Wi-Fi, the museum works with a stroller or a wheelchair (there is a lift and ramps), and dogs are welcome.

Trail of Angels is a calm, roughly 20-minute virtual reality piece that takes you through 60 paintings by the Lithuanian artist M. K. Čiurlionis, with his music. It premiered at the Venice Film Festival and won the Lumen Prize. You can do the VR on its own for €10, or add it to your museum visit for €6 on top of the ticket.
The museum sells it only at its own desk and seats are limited, so tell us when you book and we check the free seats with the museum for your time. You pay the VR part at the museum desk. The SoFun Card discount does not apply to it.

The nearest tram stop is Central Market (Tsentralni Hali), next to the market hall. The museum has no parking of its own; there is paid parking nearby, but walking or public transport is easier.
