A whiskey tasting in Sofia at Bar Caldo, a whisky bar on Rakovski Street in the city centre with more than 250 bottles on its shelves. The bar's host pours four 25 ml whiskies per person and talks you through each one: where it comes from, how to nose it and what to look for. Choose Scottish Wonders for four Scotches or Worldwide Adventure for Ireland, India, the USA and Japan. It takes 40 to 60 minutes and costs from €54, priced for the whole group, which makes it an easy start to a stag do or a night out.

Worldwide Adventure goes around the world in four glasses: Teeling from Ireland, Paul John from India, Templeton Rye from the USA and Kamiki from Japan. If someone in your group thinks they already know whiskey, this is the one. The bar sometimes swaps a bottle for a similar one, and the host tells you what is in the glass on the night.
Many groups book the whiskey tasting as the first stop of a stag do or a birthday: an hour with a host gives everyone something to talk about before the night moves on.
