What to bring to the desk

Driving across the border

Many guests combine Sofia with Thessaloniki, Bucharest, Belgrade, Skopje or Istanbul. Top Rent A Car allows trips to Greece, North Macedonia, Serbia, Romania and European Turkey, on request. Add it at the last step of the booking. You pay a one-off fee that depends on the car class, plus 50% of it for each extra country, and the deposit is doubled unless you take Premium Protection.

Send a copy of your passport and licence at least one working day before pick-up, so the papers are ready. Permits are valid for up to 25 days. Other European countries are possible only after individual approval.

Where do I pick up the car at Sofia Airport?+
You have two options. The head office is 2.5 km from the airport, at 20 Podp. Yordan Todorov St. by Sofiyska Sveta Gora metro, with a free 5-minute shuttle and the best price. Or collect it at the desks in the T1 and T2 arrivals halls, open 24/7, with an airport fee.
Can I cancel for free?+
Yes, up to 72 hours before the rental starts. Later than that, the penalty is 20% of the booking value and at least one rental day.
Do I need a credit card?+
Yes, a physical credit card in the driver's name, for the deposit. The amount is blocked, not charged, and released after the rental. A debit card is accepted only with the extra Top Protection cover.
Is insurance included?+
Third-party liability, collision damage (CDW) and theft (TP) cover are included. Top Protection or Premium Protection can be added to reduce or remove the deposit risk.
Is there a mileage limit?+
No. Cars have unlimited mileage. Only cargo vans have a limit.
How old do I have to be?+
At least 21, with a licence held for a year or more. Drivers aged 21 to 23 pay a young driver fee and a double deposit.
Can I drive to Greece, Romania or Serbia?+
Yes, on request, to Greece, North Macedonia, Serbia, Romania and European Turkey. A one-off fee applies, the deposit is doubled, and you send your documents a working day before pick-up.
Can the car be delivered to my hotel?+
Yes. Delivery costs €28 in Sofia and €18 in Plovdiv, Varna, Burgas and Ruse, and is added during the booking.
Can I drive with a foreign licence?+
Yes. If it is not from the EEA or Switzerland, bring an International Driving Permit or a legalised translation along with the original.
