About Hadjidraganovite Kashti
In 1866 a merchant named Hadji Dragan commissioned master builders from across Bulgaria to build an inn unlike anything in Sofia. The result was four houses built in the architectural styles of Koprivshtitsa, Zheravna, Melnik, and Bansko - each with its own character, connected by a shared courtyard. The complex was restored and opened as a restaurant, and today it's one of the most unusual dining spaces in the Balkans.
The interior is worth arriving early to explore. Antique objects, regional crafts, and folk textiles fill every room. The menu is large - genuinely large, to the point where first-time visitors often need help navigating it.
The staff speak English and are used to guiding guests through the options. Portions are generous; most people leave having eaten more than they planned. A live folk band plays every day except Tuesday, from 20:00 to 23:00 - Wednesday through Sunday - background music that fits the setting without competing with conversation.
